Overview

17–25 September 2026 | Ruhr University Bochum

The RUB Summer School 2026 offers an interdisciplinary insight into translational research in vertebrate development, bringing together students and experts from medicine, biology, biotechnology, and related life sciences. Participants will explore how fundamental developmental biology research contributes to understanding human diseases, congenital malformations, and innovative therapeutic approaches.

Topics

The program covers a broad range of current research fields, including:

  • Malformations in newborns
  • Human syndromes
  • Pediatric surgery
  • Stem-cell-based disease modeling
  • Induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and organoids
  • 3D bioprinting technologies
  • Microsurgery in the chicken embryo
  • Grafting to the Chorio-Allantoic Membrane (CAM)

Organization

The Summer School is offered by the Faculties of Human Medicine and Biology at the Ruhr-University Bochum. Conductive lecturers: Prof. Dr. Beate Brand-Saberi (Medicine) and Prof. Dr. Stefan Wiese (Biology).

Target Group

The Summer School is open to students of Human Medicine as well as Bachelor’s and Master’s students of Biology and Stem Cell Research. Students can obtain from 4 up to 12 ECTS credits according to their study program. Please contact your student advisory service before registration.

Networking and Social Program

In addition to scientific lectures and practical training, participants can benefit from networking opportunities, project discussions, and a social program designed to foster international collaboration.

Prof. Dr. Beate Brand-Saberi

Prof. Dr. Beate Brand-Saberi has studied Biology and Medicine in Bochum and became Professor of Anatomy at the University of Freiburg. She currently heads the Department of Anatomy and Molecular Embryology, Ruhr University Bochum, and focuses on all aspects of Stem and Developmental Biology in medical and scientific training.
